This Life by Quntos Kunquest

This Life, the debut novel by Quntos Kunquest, tells the story of two men incarcerated at Angola (Louisiana State Penitentiary) who create art in the unlikeliest of circumstances. "This Life is told in a voice that only a man who’s lived it could have—a clipped, urgent, evocative voice that surges with anger, honesty, playfulness, and a deep sense of ugly history. Angola started out as a plantation—and as This Life makes clear, black inmates are still in a kind of enslavement there. This Life is an important debut that commands our attention with the vigor, dynamism, and raw, consciousness-expanding energy of this essential new voice" (amazon.com). Hear about Kunquest's creative process, and the process of publishing a book while incarcerated, from his longtime friend and literary collaborator, Zachary Lazar, in conversation with A.E. Rooks. As part of the Words & Music Festival, this event will be livestreamed free and available to the public. Donations are gratefully accepted. Proceeds from Words & Music support One Book One New Orleans' year-round adult literacy outreach and free public programming.
